At Irkutsk State University of Railway Engineering, with police support, a student patrol was created to keep order on campus, in dorms, and at mass events. Since the start of the school year, it has held 20 patrols and maintained order at seven university events. Participants call the work useful and honorable. Regional police propose creating similar patrols at other universities in Irkutsk and the region.

At the Irkutsk State University of Railway Engineering, with the assistance of police officers, a student volunteer squad has been formed. Its responsibilities include maintaining public order on the grounds of the educational institution and the two dormitories of the transport institute, as well as during cultural, mass, and sports events in which future railway workers take part.
Every day, 10 squad members will be on duty in groups on the university grounds and the adjacent territory. The young people will make sure that students do not break the law and comply with the institute’s internal regulations. As the squad members themselves note, such work is very useful and honorable; the assistance will be especially valuable for young first-year students. Since the beginning of the academic year, the squad has already carried out 20 patrols and ensured order at 7 university events.
At the ceremonial roll call, the university vice-rector Viktor Mikhailov presented a letter of appreciation for assistance in organizing and preparing the squad to Senior Police Lieutenant Aleksandra Ivanova, district police officer of Police Precinct No. 1 of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Directorate for the city of Irkutsk. According to her, this university is not among the educational institutions where order and discipline are often violated, however, prevention is still necessary.
The police are confident that the squad’s feasible assistance will also be useful to them. After all, in addition to the fact that the young assistants inform district police officers about violations of order in this part of the city, they also themselves conduct preventive talks with the public.
According to Igor Ivanov, deputy head of the department of the Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Irkutsk Region, the public patrol consisting of members of the student squad provides invaluable assistance in combating offenses.
The regional police propose creating similar squads in all higher educational institutions of the city of Irkutsk and the region.
