In Irkutsk, as part of the 75th anniversary of the region, the museum complex Window to Asia and the Craft Courtyard opened. The new center of folk crafts will create conditions for learning and preserving traditions, and the museum presents the Vector Asia exhibition on the history of Irkutsk region ties with Eastern countries.

The museum complex “Window to Asia” of the Irkutsk Regional Museum of Local Lore and the “Craft Courtyard” of the Irkutsk Regional House of Folk Art opened today as part of events dedicated to the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Irkutsk Region.
As Valentina Voblikova noted, the work of the “Craft Courtyard” project will help create the necessary conditions for the growth and continuity of skills in traditional folk crafts. The center will make it possible to use different forms of work. The project provides for the creation of educational units, including a “School of the Young Craftsman” and production workshops, exhibition and sales halls equipped with special equipment and materials, and the development of the adjacent territory for cultural and mass events. Among the interactive workshops are pottery, birch bark, embroidery, making a traditional rag doll, folk costume, weaving, and felting.
The museum complex “Window to Asia” includes an exhibition showing the contribution of Irkutsk residents, researchers of Siberia and the Far East: scientists, scientific and public organizations, and Irkutsk governors-general to the development, study, and incorporation of the Asian continent into Russia. Today the museum complex hosts the exhibition “Vector Asia” (the Irkutsk Governorate and neighboring countries of the 18th-20th centuries). The exhibition features exhibits, documents, and photographs from the collections of the Irkutsk Regional Museum of Local Lore, telling the story of the formation and development of relations between the Irkutsk Region and neighboring Eastern countries in various spheres of activity: the economy, trade, culture, and sister-city relations.
