On October 10, a monument to Leonid Gaidai and the heroes of his films, Coward, Dunce and Experienced, will be unveiled in Labor Square in Irkutsk. The bronze composition of four figures is ready. It was created for the director's 90th birthday, and the project was made possible with support from ten sponsors. Landscaping is now being completed in the square so the monument can take its place near the circus by the opening.

On October 10, a monument dedicated to our fellow countryman, director Leonid Gaidai, and the heroes of his films, Coward, Bully, and Experienced, will be unveiled on Truda Square near the circus.
The work on the monument has been completed, and in the coming days the sculptural composition will be brought from Ulan-Ude to Irkutsk.
The authors of the monument are sculptor Alexander Mironov, Honored Artist of the Republic of Buryatia, People’s Artist of the Republic of Kalmykia, full member of the Russian Academy of Arts; sculptor Lev Serikov, Honored Artist of Russia; and architect Sergei Demkov.
The idea of creating the monument arose in 2008 and belongs to sculptor Alexander Mironov. The Committee on Urban Planning Policy of the Irkutsk city administration immediately supported the idea. The main problem was finding the money. And so, four years later, by the 90th anniversary of the great director, the plan was finally realized. Ten sponsor companies donated the funds for the production of the monument. The cost of the sculptural composition amounted to 19.5 million rubles.
As Deputy Mayor and Chairman of the Committee on Urban Planning Policy of the Irkutsk city administration Yevgeny Devochkin said, the sculptural composition of four figures is cast in bronze. The figure of director Leonid Gaidai is made at twice life size and stands 3.4 meters tall, while the characters are 2.5 meters each. The entire monument will be placed on a platform about five meters wide. Work on improving Truda Square is now in full swing. About 3 million rubles will be spent on these purposes.
