In Irkutsk the culinary contest Copper Skillet will be held for the third time, marking International Chefs Day. Participants will face three stages, including the most intriguing black box, where dishes must be created from the organizers products, and teams will be judged on originality, taste, and presentation. The winner will receive a copper skillet with the names of the best and a free internship in Moscow.
The event is organized by the workshop of author’s cuisine of Stanislav Mironov, the partnership of restaurant business in Siberia with the support of the Irkutsk administration. The “Copper Frying Pan” competition is being held in Irkutsk for the third time; traditionally, it is timed to coincide with International Chef’s Day.As the head of the trade and public catering department of the entrepreneurship and consumer market development division of the Irkutsk administration, Maxim Volynets, said, the competition will take place in three stages. The first is the “home assignment.” In 15 minutes, using homemade preparations, the participants will have to prepare a cold and a hot appetizer.
In the semifinal, the chefs will have to create a hot dish and a salad. Forty minutes are allotted for preparation.
The third stage, the organizers note, is the most exciting. It uses products provided by the organizers. Hence the name — the “black box.” Everything depends on the skills and imagination of each participant.
As a result, the organizers have no doubt that masters from the best cafes and restaurants of Irkutsk will take part in the competition. Each team consists of two people: a chef and his assistant.
The contestants will be judged according to several criteria. As in French cuisine, specialists comment, first comes the design, the originality of the presentation, then the quality and taste. Attention is also paid to the condition of the table during the cooking process.
Each criterion is scored on a 10-point scale.
The best chef will receive, as a prize, a kind of trophy: a copper frying pan with the winners’ names and a free internship in Moscow at the “Culinary School of the Federation of Professional Chefs and Pastry Chefs”.
The culinary skills competition “Copper Frying Pan” will take place on October 20 at the night club “7 Bar” (108 Baikalskaya St.) at 15:00.
