In Irkutsk, youth mayor elections have been announced for November 23, 2012. By November 10, candidates must collect signatures and submit documents, and young people aged 14 to 30 who study or work in the city can vote.

This was reported at a press conference by Acting Head of the Department for Physical Culture, Sports, and Youth Policy of the Irkutsk City Administration Alexander Shapochkin.
Until November 10, candidates must submit documents and signatures to the youth election commission. Self-nominated candidates need the support of at least 150 people, and candidates from parties need at least 100 people. A resident of Irkutsk aged 16 to 30 can become the youth mayor.
As Alexander Shapochkin said, since last year Irkutsk has had a deliberative and executive public body, the “Youth City Hall under the Administration of Irkutsk.”
In 2011–2012, the youth city hall organized and held more than 20 events (“Student Self-Government Day at the Irkutsk City Administration,” the business game “I Am the President,” the charity campaign “Letter of Love,” the talent contest “Minute of Fame,” etc.), and studied public opinion on youth policy issues among the residents of Irkutsk. More than 4,000 Irkutsk residents were involved in the activities of the youth city hall.
In November 2012, the term of office of the head of the youth city hall, Daria Pilizina, expires. In this regard, on October 2, at the VIII meeting of the Youth Parliament under the Duma of the City of Irkutsk, a decision was made to hold elections for the youth mayor of Irkutsk on November 23, 2012. In Irkutsk, 30 election commissions will operate on the basis of educational institutions and in the Committee for Social Policy and Culture of the Irkutsk City Administration. Young people aged 14 to 30 who study or work in Irkutsk will be able to take part in the vote.
“We want young people to understand what the electoral process is and to bring something new to it,” Alexander Shapochkin noted. – “All the more so because youth elections on such a scale are being held not only in Irkutsk, but in Russia for the first time.”
