On October 27-28, the International Judo Tournament for the prizes of the Irkutsk City Administration will be held for the first time in the Siberian Federal District at the Trud Sports Palace. This was reported by the head of the city department of physical culture and sports, Natalya Ivanova.
The organizers of the tournament are the Irkutsk City Administration and the public organization “Development of Judo in the City of Irkutsk.”
Last year, the tournament had the status of an All-Russian event and brought together about 400 participants from across the country. This year, more than 700 athletes from 6 countries (Russia, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan) will come to the tournament. The participants’ ages range from 11 to 18 years old.
The head of the public organization “Development of Judo in the City of Irkutsk,” Ergash Makhmatbekov, emphasized that events of this level strengthen friendly ties between Russian and foreign cities.
“We will cooperate with all teams, invite them to our competitions, go to training camps with them,” noted Ergash Makhmatbekov. “This will make it possible to raise the athletes’ level of skill, gain new experience, and make new friends.”
As an honorary guest, the tournament has invited the Athens Olympic Games champion and Sydney Olympic bronze medalist Tamerlan Tmenov (Vladikavkaz).
