In Irkutsk, a 31 year old previously convicted man was detained after reporting a supposed planned explosion at a Sberbank building on Furye Street. He was quickly identified and admitted guilt, blaming a nervous breakdown caused by bank employees actions. A criminal case has now been opened for a knowingly false report of terrorism, and he faces punishment and a large fine.

On the evening of October 24, 2012, a phone call was received at the settlement and cash center of OJSC Sberbank in Volgograd from an unknown man, who said that he intended to blow up the building of an OJSC Sberbank branch located in the city of Irkutsk at 2 Furye Street.
Following the receipt of the terrorist threat, units of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Federal Security Service, which are part of the operational headquarters in the Irkutsk Region, immediately carried out priority measures, as a result of which the “fake terrorist” was identified. Officers of the criminal investigation department of Police Station No. 5 of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Irkutsk detained him and brought him to the duty station. The offender turned out to be a previously convicted 31-year-old resident of Irkutsk, who works at LLC Gastronom No. 1.
During questioning, the young man gave a confession. He explained his actions by a nervous breakdown caused by the allegedly incompetent actions of bank employees.
The internal affairs authorities have opened a criminal case under Article 207 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — knowingly false report of an act of terrorism. Now the “terrorist” faces criminal punishment and a substantial fine.
