In Irkutsk, amendments to the rules for placing outdoor advertising were adopted, which will take effect in November 2012. The new rules will tighten control over signs, pointers, and advertising on roofs and building facades to avoid visual chaos and preserve the citys appearance. In particular, signs on facades will be allowed with an area of no more than two square meters.

At the beginning of October this year, the city authorities adopted a draft amendment to the “Rules for the Distribution of Outdoor Advertising in the Territory of Irkutsk.” The changes to the law will come into force in November 2012. With the help of the draft, they plan to strengthen control over the location of signs, pointers, rooftop advertising, and advertising on building facades.
According to the head of the Outdoor Advertising and Nonstationary Trade Department of the Irkutsk administration, Natalya Sizykh, many advertisers, when placing signs on buildings, do not pay attention to other inscriptions. This results in a mismatch in color and font. All of this affects the appearance of the city. In order to prevent advertising from spoiling Irkutsk, it must be controlled.
The amendments to the law are as follows: signs no larger than two square meters will be allowed on building facades. Responsibility for monitoring compliance with this requirement has been assigned to the Outdoor Advertising and Nonstationary Trade Department of the Irkutsk administration.
