In Irkutsk region, the number of officially registered unemployed in October fell 17.3 percent from last year, and the unemployment rate was 1.3 percent, below the SFO average. Employers reported a need for 28.4 thousand workers, especially blue collar workers, engineers, accountants, doctors, nurses, educators and teachers. From November 1 to 3, the Choose a Profession education services fair will be held in Irkutsk, where young specialists can speak directly with employers, learn about vacancies, and attend consultations and trainings.

The number of officially registered unemployed in the Irkutsk Region, as of October, decreased by 17.3% compared with the same period in 2011. This was reported at a press conference by the Minister of Economic Development and Industry of the region, Ruslan Kim. The minister noted that the registered unemployment rate in the Angara region was 1.3%, which is below the average for the Siberian Federal District (1.4%). According to Ruslan Kim, the current demand of organizations for workers amounts to 28.4 thousand people, reported to the employment service of the Irkutsk Region, including 22 thousand people in blue-collar occupations out of the total number of vacancies submitted.
The minister also said that vacancies are mainly concentrated in construction organizations, manufacturing enterprises, educational institutions, wholesale and retail trade, and in the repair of motor vehicles, household goods, and personal items. Employers are in high demand for highly qualified workers and specialists performing a complex of interrelated tasks (universal electricians, electric and gas welders, agricultural machinery drivers).
- Among white-collar professions, employers mainly demand highly qualified specialists with work experience — above all engineers, accountants, and doctors. In addition, nurses, kindergarten teachers, and schoolteachers are in demand on the labor market. The need for specialists in economic, legal, and humanities fields will be relatively low in the coming years, Ruslan Kim emphasized.
The minister noted that, according to Irkutskstat, the number of people employed in large, medium, and small organizations in the Irkutsk Region in September 2012 increased by 0.6% compared with the same period last year and amounted to 788.1 thousand people.
Ruslan Kim also said that the educational services exhibition “Choose a Profession” will be held in Irkutsk from November 1-3. The event is organized by the regional government. This year, 25 applications have been submitted to participate in the exhibition from various organizations, including 6 from institutions of secondary vocational education and 13 from institutions of higher professional education. Institutions of vocational education from not only the Irkutsk Region but also the People’s Republic of China (Qiqihar State University) plan to take part in the exhibition.
– At the exhibition, young specialists are given a unique opportunity for personal communication with staff from the human resources departments of organizations in the Irkutsk Region. At presentations by employer companies, it will be possible to obtain information about personnel policy, open vacancies, and the requirements placed on potential applicants, ask questions, and receive answers firsthand, the minister emphasized.
In addition to job searching, the exhibition-fair program provides for various trainings, business meetings, and presentations of specialties. Consultations will be conducted by specialists from the regional employment service. Every year, about 6,000 people from various cities and districts of the Angara region visit the exhibition.
