In the Irkutsk region, applications are ending for the open youth social projects contest SAMI, held for the first time in the region and already of great interest to students, schoolchildren and working youth. Applications are open until November 20, and more than 20 initiatives have come in from different municipalities of the region. The contest is meant to support projects aimed at solving social problems and help youth initiative groups get resources to implement their ideas.
The acceptance of applications for participation in the open youth social projects competition “SAMI!” is coming to an end. The competition was launched on the initiative of the Russian Union of Youth in September 2012 with the support of the Government of the Irkutsk Region. During this time, a large number of students, working youth, and schoolchildren showed special interest in it. In this regard, it was decided to extend the application deadline until November 20, 2012.Over the course of two months, more than 20 applications were submitted by initiative groups of young people, youth public associations, universities and secondary specialized educational institutions, and general education schools of the Irkutsk Region. Project proposals came from more than 10 municipalities of the region: Irkutsk, Shelekhov, Baykalsk, Angarsk, Tulun, Bratsk, Nizhneudinsk, Cheremkhovo, Bratsk, Zhigalovsky, Tulunsky, Cheremkhovsky, Olkhonsky, and Chunsky districts of the Irkutsk Region.
The open youth social projects competition “SAMI!” is being held in the Irkutsk Region for the first time and is timed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of our region. The purpose of the competition is to identify and implement new youth socially significant projects in various areas and fields of activity. Support may be received by social projects aimed at helping children or adults, youth themselves, people with disabilities, pensioners, and other categories of citizens, and focused on solving problems in the areas of culture, sports, leisure, social and legal protection.
Member of the Public Chamber of the Irkutsk Region, Deputy Chairman of the Irkutsk Regional Branch of the Russian Union of Youth Pyotr Treskin noted: “Active young people can ‘give a start’ to new initiatives, however, in our region there are not enough technologies for attracting local resources to implement youth social initiatives. Subsidies from municipal or regional budgets, foreign grants, as a rule, are aimed at public organizations. Youth initiative groups without legal status remain without financial and resource support. The competition ‘SAMI!’ is designed to solve this problem.”
