The exhibition “The Decembrists: Siberia as Destiny”, marking 200 years since the Senate Square uprising, ran until 26 December 2025.

On 8 December 2025 the exhibition “The Decembrists: Siberia as Destiny”, marking the 200th anniversary of the uprising on Senate Square, opened in the foyer of the State Archive of Irkutsk Region at 79 Baikalskaya Street. The Russian State Historical Archive and the Irkutsk Decembrist Museum helped to select the documents.

On display are original photographs and documents about those sentenced by the Supreme Criminal Court, the arrival of the first groups of Decembrists in Irkutsk and their settlement in the governorate. The first to arrive, on 28 August 1826, were Sergei Volkonsky, Sergei Trubetskoy and Pyotr and Andrei Borisov. A separate section is devoted to the women who followed their husbands and fiancés: here, for example, is the travel pass of Pauline Gueble, who was travelling to Nerchinsk to marry Ivan Annenkov. “Two centuries have not erased the memory of the Decembrists,” said the archive’s director, Semyon Zhabinsky.
