About 800 participants from 15 countries and 30 events at ten venues in Irkutsk and Baikalsk.
On 24 September 2026 the Baikal International Ecological Congress under the auspices of UNESCO opened in Irkutsk. It marks the 30th anniversary of Baikal’s inclusion in the World Heritage List and the 110th anniversary of Russia’s system of nature reserves. Over four days 30 events took place at ten venues in Irkutsk and Baikalsk, with about 800 participants from 15 countries and 40 Russian regions.
The programme included an exhibition of green technologies at SibExpoCentre, the 12th International Forest Restoration Forum “Baikal Ecosystem” and the youth forum “Eco-Youth”. The congress is part of the programme of the Nevsky International Ecological Congress; the organisers plan to hold it every two years.
