An asphalt concrete plant has started operating in Irkutsk, and road repairs are beginning in the city. This year only four main roads will be overhauled, and 40 million rubles are budgeted for pothole repairs. Specialists have already drawn up a list of more than one hundred streets where it is urgently needed. The plant currently produces 10 to 15 tons of asphalt a day, but as it gets warmer it will be able to work around the clock and produce up to 120 tons. Its capacity will be enough only for the main roads, while material for inner block roads and courtyards will be supplied by another contractor chosen in a competition.

Yesterday was the first day of operation for the Irkutsk asphalt concrete plant. Road repairs are beginning in the regional center.
This year, major repairs are planned for only 4 city thoroughfares - Baikalskaya, 3rd of July, Bogdana Khmelnitskogo, and Partizanskaya.
Nikolai Khitsenko drew attention to the fact that the asphalt from the Irkutsk plant, laid last summer on Baikalskaya Street, passed the winter test successfully. As for this year’s plans, the deputy mayor assured, the economic crisis will not affect pothole repairs. The city budget has allocated 40 million rubles for these purposes. Specialists, in particular from the city traffic police, have identified a list of streets that urgently need such repairs. There are no fewer than one hundred of them.
For now, the asphalt concrete plant produces 10-15 tons per day. However, very soon, with the onset of warmer average daily temperatures, the enterprise will operate more productively. Here, up to 120 tons can be produced around the clock. In summer, when roadwork gets fully underway, its capacity will be increased.
However, the plant’s capacity will be enough only to produce asphalt for the city’s main thoroughfares. For the repair of intra-block roads and the improvement of courtyards, another contractor will produce the material. It will be determined by a competition to be held by the Irkutsk city administration.
