In Irkutsk, after the summer holidays, inspections of school cafeterias resumed. Specialists assess food preparation and storage, sanitation, and equipment and staff. No violations were found yet.

After the summer holidays, specialists from the public catering department of the economic committee of the Irkutsk city administration resumed their work monitoring the operation of school cafeterias. The first inspections were carried out at two schools in the city center, No. 17 and No. 11. The specialists inspecting the cafeterias assessed compliance with the technology of food preparation and storage, the sanitary condition of the food service unit, as well as staffing and equipment availability.
In addition, samples of prepared dishes were taken from the school cafeterias; they are now being examined in laboratory conditions for compliance with the declared composition of the products.
As noted by the head of the public catering department, Maxim Volynets.
– “We conduct such inspections every day. In total, over the course of a year, we inspect more than 150 food service units in kindergartens and municipal schools; in addition, technologists from the municipal enterprise ‘Food Plant’ conduct their own independent inspections. Through joint efforts, over the year we cover 100% of the city’s institutions.”
Most such inspections are carried out on a scheduled basis. Grounds for an unscheduled inspection may include a complaint from parents or their children about the quality of food in the cafeterias. Fortunately, no such complaints have been received this year. According to the results of the first preliminary inspections, no violations were found. The results of the laboratory examination of the samples taken from the prepared dishes will be ready within 24 hours.
At present, the cost of a full lunch in a school cafeteria is 51 rubles. For this amount, a student receives a hot dish with a side dish for the first course, a salad for the second, and a drink with dessert (mainly baked goods). A cyclic menu has been approved for all kindergartens and schools in the city; it sets out the list of dishes for a period of 10 days. School cafeterias also sell juices, still drinks, various confectionery products, and baked goods
